We are delighted to announce an evening marking the life and times of the legendary couple, Gertrude Stein and Alice B Toklas.

The evening will begin with a discussion between Francesca Wade and Jennifer Higgie on the occasion of Francesca's new book, Gertrude Stein: An Afterlife. Francesca will talk about Stein’s life and work, as well as that of her partner Alice B Toklas.
We will then be treated to a special dinner of dishes from Alice’s 1954 cookbook, which has become one of the best-selling recipe books of all time. It comprises a poetic, and sometimes surreal collection of stories and dishes from their time in Paris and the South of France, served to their artist and writer friends, including Picasso, Picabia and Hemingway.
The menu has been chosen by chef Alex Jackson, who specialises in Provencal cooking, and is late of Sardine, Noble Rot, Soho and Leila’s Cafe, Shoreditch. Alex will cook the meal with Toklas head chef Chris Shaw and the Toklas kitchen team. Artist Allison Katz will make a special menu for the occasion.
This is a unique opportunity to celebrate one of the great literary and culinary moments of the 20th century - we are limiting seats to 100 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Tickets are £85 with the option to add on a drinks pairing for £50 and a copy of ‘Gertrude Stein: An Afterlife’ for £20.
Please note - Guests will be sat family-style on long tables. Due to the complexity of the menu, substitutions will not be possible.
