About Toklas
Toklas is a Mediterranean restaurant with its own bakery, situated between the Strand and the river Thames. After climbing a few steps, guests enter via a large, planted terrace that overlooks a classic London street, lined with Victorian buildings, King’s College and the facade of a disused Tube station. There is a distant view of the river.
The restaurant is simply decorated, with a reclaimed parquet floor, vintage Scandinavian chairs and green leather banquettes. Guests will find an open kitchen, a bar, and artworks by Wolfgang Tillmans and Ragna Bley. A patchwork of art posters from the last 40 years lines the bar wall.
We aspire to serve the best, freshest produce we can get hold of, whether that’s vegetables, fruit, fish or meat. The menu is designed to let the flavours of the ingredients shine though. As with the Mediternanean diet, the food is generally on the lighter side – we lead with vegetables, then fish, then meat. Dishes generally use olive oil rather than butter or cream. A large open grill dominates the kitchen.
